I just want to say first that I just discoved this sight and I'm loving it!

I've got another non-messy way to make textures in Photoshop, but with this way you start outside of Photoshop. Take any 3-d object and scan it in using your scanner. Things that work great are trash bags, various types if material (like lace or crushed velvet), and even doll hair. After you have it scanned in you can play with the filters in Photoshop. The tips that Dani has above are a great place to start. I also like layering many objects and playing with the different layer effects. Also if you are going to do a lot of work in Photoshop I suggest getting a pressure sensitive Wacom drawing tablet. This allows for your brushstrokes to be different. (I don't have one yet but they are soo cool!)

WARNING: Be careful about what you put on your scanner. Some objects will scratch your scanner such as metal and glass!

Yes Eric, I have read that article. I think it's very cool. I've toyed with the idea of getting one myself, and perhaps I will in the future. I would love to hear how it goes. Thanks for the heads up!

Thank you so very much. I'll work on something soon to post on my blog using this info. I know this is off subject but, Dani have you read the post about a digital paint program called Colors! DS on the lines and colors website? If not here's the link: http://www.linesandcolors.com/2007/11/26/colors-and-inchworm-digital-painting-applications-for-nintendo-ds/ This is the reason I'm buying a Nintendo DS Lite for Christmas if I can find one that is. I've already downloaded the free software and gotten the Datel Games 'n Music DS. I'll let you know how it works out by sending you a link to my blog on blogspot.com after I get the hardware and create some art.
