The Blues

Sadly, I think a lot of girls go through days like this in school.
This is my Illustration Friday submission for the week. I went through some of my old sketches and chose this to color and finish. I’m kinda glad I found this one because the IF theme got me using a color scheme I probably wouldn’t have used otherwise.

colors are just great! I love characters also!
Wonderful work, I know how hard is to be a girl sometimes…
Beautiful illustration – I love the colors and the overall style.
very nice illustration and it definitely gets the point across very clearly….. colours are great!
This is my favoriye of all the “blues” pictures from illustration friday. I love this picture, the colours are great-so much drama! And the drawing is wonderful, the faces are perfect.
such a perfect illustration for the topic…how sad, but true. I think we’ve all been in that little lady’s shoes at one time or another. The colors are perfect and I love the slant to the lockers….nicely done !!!
I love the overly dramatic atmosphere you’ve created with all the cool colors. Sometimes high school can feel like a dark, scary dungeon.
And I checked out the rest of your work on your website– I love your style!
this is such a nice illustration!!! i love your work!
Love this. It’s so wonderful the mood you created here. Love her expression and all those shades of blues and purple. Lots of contrast…and I really like the reflection on the floor. Excellent work :o)
Yes, I think these colors do it justice. She’s blue.
Oh my God, I was soooo her! Those were hard times. Wonderful illo! I’m glad you dragged it out and colored it…it’s perfect.
Nice work, I like the subtle reflection in the floor and her expression.
Beautifully done, Dani. The message is clear and the point of view and design make a statement about life in general, not just for kids but all of us. The colors work beautifully.
I liek this a lot..the colour balance..the rich characters you have here! nice job really!
great illo! Congratulations!!!!
Gee Dani, you’re an amazing designer and colorist (if there is such a word)! I’ve been loving your work, always a pleasure. You’ll have to give me some tips on color comps and color composition someday.
Really great piece.
i really love everything about this piece!
beautiful colours, great characters – I really like their expressions. And I love the shiny floor.
lovely piece. the colors really pull everything together without being flat at all.
Really nice – I remember that feeling so well and the colors/angles really work well with the scene.
Gosh, I love this! It works on so many levels – the blue palette, the perspective, the characters – perfect! One of my favorites for the week!! And yep – felt that way before for sure…
very nice dani, I do like the color scheme a lot
Nice color, great drawing, my favorite part is the stone wall oddly enough. That’s what school felt like to me, a giant prison.
Oof..middle school..the memories. This is great!
Very COOL. :)
dani, your work is amazing! i am so coming back again. in this one, not only do you capture that awful moment – the color, and her foreground tension, the wonderful composition, really takes you right back to it. the light is just perfect, too…
I am new to your work and am just speachless. It’s stunning! Your use of colour is superb. Will definately be back.
love the characters and the textures that you have created in this illustration!! keep em coming!!
